Tribeca loves Citibike! Though some neighbors do not love how dock locations are chosen. This site exists to support a simpler, faster and more transparent process for deciding the location of Citibike docks in NYC neighborhoods, specifically Tribeca. It is a tool that features the 3 sets of data the DOT and local community need to make the best decision.
The goal of the tool is to help the DOT make better decisions based on ridership data, the preferences of local stakeholders and DOT siting requirements.
Ridership Data per dock
Rank-choice votes of potential locations
Siting requirements used by the DOT
For example, in Tribeca:
Bikes at N. Moore and Greenwich Street an Murray and Greenwich Street are used 10-15 per bike per day, on average, over the last 4 years. While each bike on Duane Street are used 3-4 times per day.
80 local stakeholders in Tribeca have voted on 5 possible locations on TribecaDocks.com - mostly along Greenwich Street. Also, the DOT has provided a form for visitors to recommend other alternative locations.
The DOT – while not yet providing a clear set of siting requirements to the community, have disqualified the top 2 locations based on the proximity of manhole covers. By having the siting requirements in advance, the list of possible locations preferred by the community would all be pre-qualified.
Conclusion:
The DOT needs to please provide the community with the relevant facts that determine the eligibility of a Cibike dock location - before any decision are made about infill.
The busiest docks (by far) in the neighborhood should be the priority for any new or infill locations: N. Moore & Greenwich and Murray and Greenwich.
